A Portuguese born citizen, migrated to Ghana in December 1982, had different business, however since 2005 to date is in the Information Technology Sector, was proposed to the Portuguese Government, as the Portuguese Honorary Consul to Ghana in March 1997 by the Portuguese Ambassador in Nigeria Dr. Felipe D, Albuquerque, the Portuguese Government gazette his nomination in December 1997 and received his Carta Patente from the Portuguese Prime Minister Andrade Gutierrez on the 23rd March 1998, afterwards received his Exequatur from the Government of Ghana trough Minister of Foreign Affairs James Victor Gbeho on the 3rd February 1999.

He is a member of the HCCGH since 10th March 1999

ABOUT PORTUGUESE CONSULATE

Functions of Honorary Consul

    • Consular Registration to Portuguese citizen’s 
    • Consular Protection to Portuguese citizen’s 
    • Promote and develop the economic relations and trade between entities in Portugal and Ghana
    • Establish stronger cultural relations between Portugal and Ghana.

The Honorary Consul do not have the competence to practice the following Consular acts:

    • Registry Civil and Notary 
    • Emission of documents of identification or travelling.
    • Concession of Visas
    • Electoral registration

1- Consular Registration

Needed documents

    • The Consul will send by mail or WhatsApp the Registration Form, a digital photo should be attached on the form in indicated space, scan of passport Biodata and resident visa together with Citizen card front and reverse, should be attach in mail to be sent to consulghluso@yahoo.com
    • A Portuguese with Consular Registration, on request together with respective fees can be provided a Residence Permit and when leaving Ghana, a Baggage Certificate and verification of Identity for the purpose of claiming SSNIT Contributions
    • A Portuguese can request for Single Travelling Document in case of lost or stolen travelling document.
    • The Consulate can witness some signatures for Power of Attorney, subsequently to be recognized by our Embassy in Nigeria.
    • A Portuguese citizen who marries in Ghana to a Ghanaian or a resident third country citizen must submit their marriage documents for processing to this Honorary Consul to enable registration in the Conservatoria Registros Centrais.
    • A Portuguese citizen whose child is born in Ghana or adopted must submit the birth or adopted documents for processing to enable registration with Conservatoria Registros Centrais

Important to note that all the above documents after verification by the Honorary Consulate have to be sent by DHL to our Embassy in Abuja Nigeria for validation, recognition of signatures.

2- Consular Protection 

    • Assist in case of accident, sickness contacts with adequate hospital facilities
    • Assist relatives how to repatriate the corpse in case of death.
    • Assist in case of prison or detention as well as victim of acts of violence by advising on Lawyers.
    • Help in the repatriation of citizens in difficulty after signing Repatriation request and promise of reimbursement of expenses incurred.
    • Assist on Emergency repatriation as advised by the EU.
