Mission of the Protocol Directorate

To provide consular services and assistance to the Mauritian Diaspora and Nationals abroad.

Role of the Protocol Directorate

    • Providing prompt, effective and courteous consular service
    • Ensuring we have trained and dedicated staff to assist
    • Protecting the privacy of people in accordance with law
    • Maintaining collaborative working relations with other government agencies to facilitate effective consular and crisis-related assistance

    • Assistance to Mauritians in distress overseas
    • Assistance in cases of loss of passports and issue of travel documents to Mauritian Nationals
    • Assistance for transfer of mortal remains
    • Coordinate requests for official and civil status documents, certificate of character, driving license among others.

    • Views, advice and assistance on Protocol Matters

Assistance to Mauritians Abroad

Mauritians in distress abroad can request for consular assistance from our Diplomatic Missions/Consulate and Honorary Consulates overseas. It includes attending to difficulties faced by Mauritians abroad ranging from problems encountered during studies to assault/robbery cases and loss of passports/personal belongings.

eService Application

Application for Assistance to Mauritians in Distress Abroad : This section enables the online application for assistance to Mauritians in distress abroad. The registered applicant needs to fill in the online application form, which is then electronically submitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade for processing.

Death of Mauritians Overseas

Special arrangements have to be made with our Missions abroad for the landing of mortal remains supported by relevant documentation.  The following information or documentation about the deceased should include:

    • Full name
    • Date of birth
    • Passport number / NID
    • Next-of-kin of the deceased person (if you are not the closest relative)
    • Contact details of relatives in Mauritius
    • Death Certificate ( From the Hospital/Medical Doctor certifying the Cause of Death)
    • Embalming Certificate (which can be received from the Funeral Parlour)
