Current Situation in Austria

The measures implemented by the Austrian government and the discipline of the Austrian people have taken effect. The number of new infections in Austria is continuing to decrease and the strict measures for the containment of the coronavirus are being rolled back in a step-by-step process.

Austria is currently in a phase of gradual, secure, and monitored re-opening. Restaurants and museums have opened on 15 May, accommodation facilities and recreational operations on 29 May.

The borders to many European countries are now open again (see below for details). For all other countries however, cross-border travel is still strongly discouraged or impossible. Please check both Austrian and local regulations before booking a trip.

Find below the available information on current and planned measures. Additional details are currently being drawn up by the Austrian government – these details depend on further developments. The safety of our guests, our hosts, and of the Austrian citizens remains the primary objective throughout this whole process.

Please note: The following information has been researched with the utmost care. However, we can provide no guarantee of accuracy.

Current Entry Requirements to Austria

At the moment, travellers from the following countries do not need to show a negative COVID-19 test or commit to quarantine: Belgium, Germany, Denmark (including the Faroe Islands), Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Iceland, Italy (partial travel warning for Lombardy), Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Switzerland, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia, Ireland, Cyprus, Andorra, Monaco, San Marino, Vatican City, Spain.

Entry by air is prohibited to third-country nationals from states outside the Schengen area. Third-country nationals travelling from inside the Schengen area by air have to carry a medical certificate proving a negative COVID-19 test result or are obligated to commit to a 14-day quarantine.

Please keep in mind that not only the Austrian regulations are in effect, but also the regulations in your respective home country. Please enquire with the responsible authorities (foreign ministry or Austrian embassy) about the provisions on departure, transit, and return.

Update 29 June: Due to a high number of cases, travellers from the Gütersloh district in Germany will need a negative COVID-19 test (administered in the last 48 hrs) to travel to Austria.
