Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL), the flag carrier of the United Republic of Tanzania, has officially launched direct flight services between Dar es Salaam (DAR) and Accra (ACC), marking a major milestone in intra-African aviation and economic integration. The new route — which also connects with Lagos — commenced operations on January 28, 2026, with return fares starting from approximately USD 699.

The three-times-weekly service (operating Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays) is part of Air Tanzania’s broader strategy to expand its network and provide faster, more convenient travel links between East and West Africa. The direct connection significantly reduces the need for lengthy layovers, opening up new opportunities for business travelers, tourists and traders across the continent.

The inaugural flight into Kotoka International Airport in Accra was met with official welcomes and a traditional water salute, underscoring the importance of the route for Ghana’s aviation and tourism sectors. Government officials from both Ghana and Tanzania attended the ceremony, highlighting the role of improved air connectivity in boosting tourism, trade and cultural exchange.

Ghana’s transport and tourism authorities have praised the new service as a significant boost for regional connectivity, especially ahead of major sporting and cultural events such as the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which will be co-hosted across several African nations.

The route also bolsters Ghana’s position as an important aviation hub in West Africa, with Air Tanzania becoming the 26th international airline to serve Accra’s airport. Local aviation leaders have commended the move as a catalyst for deeper economic ties and enhanced continental cooperation.
