On November 30th 2021, the Honorary Consulate of Peru, in collaboration with the Embassy of Peru in Ghana organized an award ceremony for the Ghana-Peru Art Contest at the “Great Hall” of the University of Ghana, on the occasion of the celebration of the 200 years of the independence of Peru. The Art contest was launched in July 2021 by the Mission.
The event was attended by several dignitaries including the Head of the Peru Mission in Ghana, His Excellency Abel Antonio Cardenas Tuppia, Honorary Consul of Peru in Ghana Hon. Ghassan Yared, Head of Administration of the Honorary Consulate of Peru Mr. Sam Zacca and the Director of the Centre for Latin American Studies, University of Ghana, Dr. Joanna Boampong.
Others were representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, members of the Diplomatic Corps, traditional rulers, members of the media as well as students of the University.
Monetary prizes for the winners was sponsored by the Honorary Consulate of Peru in Tema, (300, 200 and 100 dollars respectively for the first places in the two categories), and Certificates of Recognition were presented to all participants in the contest as well as souvenirs from the Embassy of Peru in Ghana.
Bright Alornyo emerged the ultimate winner for the artwork category whilst Caleb Akakpo and Richael Aryeh were first and second runners-up respectively.
In the literature category, Janice Kreponi took first place, Dorcas Elinam Gbeddy took second place and Chantelle Tomaides was third place.
His Excellency Abel Antonio Cárdenas Tuppia acknowledged the great standard of entries received for the contest and further congratulated everyone who participated in the contest as he encouraged them to always strive to succeed at whatever they set out to do.
On his part, the Honorary Consul of Peru in Ghana, Hon. Ghassan Yared highlighted Peru’s African roots, which is evident in Peruvian cuisine and music.
He added that Africans have made great contributions to the development of cultural life in Peru.
The Cultural Ambassador of Ghana, known as Asor, presented a congratulatory plaque for the bicentennial of Peru’s independence. Guests also enjoyed a cultural show that included dances, music and songs.
